Project Overview
This project involved creating a complete brand identity system and product packaging design for a private label brand launching on Amazon. The challenge was to build a brand that felt established and trustworthy from day one — without the years of market presence that typically builds brand recognition.
The solution was a cohesive visual identity anchored by a distinctive logo mark, a carefully chosen brand palette, and packaging design that communicates premium quality through every detail — from the typography choice down to the structural die-cut of the box.
Why Brand Identity Matters for Amazon Private Label
Amazon has become an increasingly brand-aware marketplace. Buyers no longer just search for products — they search for brands they trust. Private label sellers who invest in professional brand identity from the start earn more repeat purchases, generate stronger word-of-mouth, and qualify for Amazon's Brand Registry — which unlocks A+ Content, Brand Storefront, Sponsored Brands ads, and brand protection tools.
Conversely, a weak or generic brand identity signals low product quality to buyers even before they read a single review. In competitive categories, the brand is often what converts a 3-star browse into a purchase decision.
What Was Delivered
- Logo design — primary logomark with horizontal and stacked variations, designed for both digital and print reproduction at any size
- Brand color system — primary and secondary palette with exact Pantone, CMYK, RGB, and HEX values for print and digital consistency
- Typography system — primary and secondary typefaces with usage rules covering headings, body, and product labels
- Product packaging — box design, product label, and insert card — all print-ready with bleed, trim, and safe-zone specifications
- Amazon Storefront design — banner creative, category tile images, and brand hero layout for the storefront landing page
- Brand guidelines document — a PDF reference covering all brand elements, usage rules, and forbidden combinations for consistent brand application
Design Process
The process began with a competitive landscape audit — reviewing the top 30 products in the target category on Amazon and mapping their visual positioning. This revealed the dominant visual patterns in the category (often minimal, clinical designs in health and home goods) and identified the white space — bold, confident design direction that would make the brand stand out on search pages.
Three distinct brand directions were explored and presented before the final direction was selected. Packaging design went through two structural mockup rounds and a final print proof before sign-off, ensuring color accuracy and print quality before the first production run.
Packaging Design for Amazon's Requirements
Amazon packaging has specific requirements that differ from retail-focused packaging design. Packaging must be optimized for the FBA (Fulfilled by Amazon) warehouse environment — surviving handling, stacking, and transit without damage. The design must also include FNSKU barcode placement, suffocation warning labels where required, and must comply with Amazon's prep requirements for each product category.
All packaging delivered in this project was designed to be Amazon FBA compliant out of the box, with correct dimensions, barcode placement guidance, and material specification recommendations to avoid costly repackaging at the fulfillment center.
